New Horizons

DGTL 2025

New Horizons is an art installation that invites visitors to step away from the high-energy pulse of the festival and into a space of tranquility and reflection. Designed as a sanctuary within the festival landscape, it offers an immersive environment where ambient electronic melodies blend seamlessly with a site-specific art installation.

At the New Horizons stage at DGTL Festival, genre boundaries blur and creativity flourishes. Five female artists contribute atmospheric soundscapes, weaving together a sonic tapestry that harmonizes perfectly with the visual centerpiece of the space. Here, visitors can retreat, rejuvenate, and reconnect with their senses—experiencing music and art as an interconnected, holistic journey.

This year, Roos Janssen has been selected through the DGTL Academy program to create a site-specific installation under the mentorship of renowned artist Heleen Blanken. Her work, showcased in the vast expanse of the NDSM Warehouse, features a long, evolving line of cylindrical forms. Beginning with hard, reflective surfaces that capture and scatter light, the material gradually transforms—becoming liquid, transparent, and fragmented before finally dissolving into a pure, delicate beam of light.

The installation unfolds through slow, almost imperceptible vertical movements. Shifting light plays across the surface, transforming the slender object into a monumental presence. Visitors are invited to explore the piece from multiple perspectives, uncovering new dimensions of light, material, and space with each step.

The sound mirrors this transformation—starting dense and textured, then gradually dissolving into something spacious and weightless. Just as the visual material dissolves into light, the music shifts from layered, tactile depths into airy, expansive soundscapes, enhancing the overall sense of immersion and reflection.

New Horizons offers a rare opportunity to experience a moment of stillness within the festival's dynamic energy—an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to see anew.
